Description
ConocoPhillips’ Commercial business is responsible for marketing the company’s global production and engaging in third-party marketing and trading. North America Gas and Power (NAGP) has been ranked a Platts Top 5 U.S. Natural Gas Marketer since 2002.
NAGP delivers competitive advantages for ConocoPhillips through industry leadership, first-in-class customer service, and unmatched operational reliability. Within NAGP, the Southwest Region is responsible for improving realized margins for ConocoPhillips’ growing equity portfolio and leading a sizable third-party marketing and trading business.
If you are selected as the Natural Gas Supply Originator – Southwest Region, you will be the primary external contact to work with key customers and seeks to develop and engage new customers. Origination responsibilities require the preferred candidate to be familiar with the Southwest US marketing, trading, and transportation infrastructure, and have the expertise to identify and originate commodity, asset, and service transactions. This role will be essential to the success of the Commercial team, and requires the ability to build value through evaluating, recommending, and executing focused physical natural gas marketing strategies, along with structured products and select financial offerings.
Your responsibilities may include:
- Developing reliable markets for ConocoPhillips’ natural gas production in the Southwest Region
- Expanding business in the Southwest
- Pursuing gas sales and asset management agreements with municipals, LDC’s, industrials, power generators, and marketing companies
- Handling strategic accounts for Southwest producers and developing tailored solutions including negotiation of asset management agreements
- Targeting new and existing customers in support of key initiatives including volume and marketing growth
- Optimizing of transportation and storage assets
- Developing, maintaining, and growing long-lasting strategic customer relationships
- Working with markets to secure gas supply and energy management agreements
- Identifying and executing well-adapted marketing and trading strategies
- Overseeing all aspects of the deal making process, including analysis, due diligence, negotiation, and closing
- Researching customer opportunities in the Permian, San Juan, and desert Southwest and executing strategies jointly created with Vice President of the Southwest Region
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with key internal partners such as physical and financial trading, scheduling, structuring, credit, accounting, and legal
- Engaging customers through presentation of market fundamentals and ConocoPhillips’ marketing messaging
Qualifications
Basic/Required:
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States as a U.S. citizen or national, or an alien admitted as a permanent resident, refugee or asylee
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Business, Finance, Economics, Engineering, Math, Science, other related field, or foreign equivalent
- 5+ years of experience in gas trading or related activity
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft O365 applications: Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams and Word
- Willing and able (with or without reasonable accommodation) to travel overnight 25% of the time on a yearly basis
- Willing and able (with or without reasonable accommodation) to work after hours, weekends and holidays as needed
Preferred:
- 3+ years of Southwest trading or origination experience
- Advanced understanding of Southwest natural gas contracts
- Advanced knowledge of risk management concepts and tools
- Recognized as an industry leader
- Ability to thrive in a collaborative, multifaceted trade floor environment
- Efficient verbal and written communication skills to provide updates to asset owners, traders, and schedulers (e.g., internal reporting and external presentations)
- Builds positive relationships based on trust and seeks collaboration across organizational boundaries to achieve goals and provide outstanding customer service to internal and external stakeholders
