The Associate Scientist will work under general supervision to coordinate tissue sample organization and storage, record keeping, and distribution internally and externally of samples to support target validation, model characterization, and interventional studies. The Associate Scientist will become deeply familiar with and keep track of ongoing studies and act as gatekeeper to samples generated through them. This position will communicate and collaborate effectively with both internal and external collaborators and CROs to ensure study success. This is a dynamic position which will require active participation in studies by preparing samples for analysis and, at times, performing assays as well as handling and collecting samples from rodents. The Associate Scientist should demonstrate the potential and desire for growth to learn and perform more complex experiments independently, under the direction of a scientist, as their role within the group expands.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinate internal external study sample tissue and biofluid collection, shipment, and cataloging.
- Act as study coordinator, under direction of a scientist, by communicating and managing studies performed at CROs.
- Collaborate with in vivo scientists to perform tissue and biofluid sample collection.
- Perform sample preparation and, when necessary, experimental sample analysis.
- Identify opportunities for protocol and process improvement and present suggestions to the group.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams in Research.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:
- B.S. or M.S. in the life sciences with 2+ years of experience after completion of the degree (relevant industry experience strongly preferred).
- Experience with biological sample management systems is a must.
- Basic knowledge of anatomy and experience working with biological specimens.
- Experience performing necropsy and dissection of tissue samples.
- Ability to communicate and work within diverse cross-functional groups.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, collaborative, and able to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
