Job Description

Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control (MFC) is inviting talented college students to apply to our competitive Algorithm Development Internship Program to bring advanced capabilities to our innovative product lines. Click here to learn more about MFC.

Prospective students should currently be enrolled in a STEM degree program at an accredited college or university. They should have strong interests in large-scale data analysis, as well as the design and development of high-performing algorithms deployed to embedded systems. Flexible onboarding dates are available for Spring 2022 (January 2022 start dates). This internship durations can span from 3 to 6 months.

Interns participating in the Algorithm Development Program will gain valuable skills and experience in one or more of these critical technological areas and have opportunities to see their work deployed in our state of the art products:

  • Image & Signal Processing
  • Multi-Object Tracking and Object Classification
  • Supervised Machine Learning / Deep Learning / AI
  • Dynamics Modeling (6-Degrees of Freedom)
  • Optimal State Estimation & Kalman Filtering
  • Navigation (inertial, GPS-aided, terrain-aided, celestial-aided)
  • Computer Vision
  • Pattern Recognition
  • Numerical Methods
  • Probabilistic Modeling & Monte Carlo Methods
  • Multivariate Statistics and Hypothesis Testing
  • Aircraft Attitude Estimation
  • Gimbal Control and Precision Pointing
  • Physics Modeling of Motion Sensing Devices (gyros, accelerometers, magnetometers)
  • Physics Modeling and Simulation of Electro-Optical Systems (telescopes and focal plane arrays)
  • Physics of Infrared Photon Detectors
  • Radiometry

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors, Masters, and PhD students specializing in Computer Science, Machine Learning/AI, Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering are especially encouraged to apply.
  • Candidates must be eligible for a DoD Security Clearance.

Desired Skills:

  • Coursework in linear algebra, multivariate calculus, and statistics
  • Familiarity with MATLAB or Python language for large-scale data analysis
  • Strong programming skills that can translate to C++ development in a Linux environment
  • A strong sense of curiosity and an innovative spirit
