Our Research & Development Division’s Pharmaceutical Sciences organization is responsible for translating a therapeutic agent into a functional drug product optimized for patients. The departments in Rahway, NJ, Kenilworth, NJ, West Point, PA, and Boston, MA are seeking summer interns who will work collaboratively in a team environment to help solve key challenges in formulation development and manufacturing.

The Pharmaceutical Sciences organization currently has several exciting internship opportunities available in the development of oral, sterile, and specialty (inhaled, implantable) pharmaceutical products including both small molecule and biologics. We are currently looking for candidates in the following areas.

Formulation: Responsible for designing and developing pharmaceutical and vaccine products. Primary duties to support both early and late stage development candidates will include screening and developing robust drug product composition, developing scalable process and defining primary packaging.

Operations: Responsible for the timely delivery of drug supply in support of clinical research and product/process development via the Pharmaceutical Sciences internal pilot plants, development facilities, external vendors and our Company’s commercial assets.

Biopharmaceutics: Responsible for developing mechanistic understanding of drug absorption via various routes of administration and biopharmaceutics strategy for formulation-pharmacokinetic bridging in all clinical stages of drug product development

Discovery Pharmaceutical Sciences: Multidisciplinary research group that provides drug delivery, solid state and solution chemistry tools in Drug Discovery and Early Development.

The Device Development Department mission is to discover, develop and commercialize superior DPI, MDI, Nasal and Parenteral medical delivery devices supporting biologics and small molecules requiring challenging and unique delivery routes.

Global Clinical Supply (GCS): Global Clinical Supply is responsible for managing an ‘end-to-end’ integrated clinical supply chain. We support all Phase I-IV clinical programs and are accountable for the compliant delivery of clinical supplies to clinical sites around the world.

We are seeking intern candidates at all levels with strong academic performance, communication skills, teamwork, and the ability to work in a multi- functional environment. The interns will participate in departmental and project team meetings to provide a broad perspective on the drug development process in the pharmaceutical industry. The interns will have the opportunity to build a working knowledge of physicochemical and mechanical characterization techniques, device development, and/or drug product manufacturing. In addition, the intern student will have an opportunity to present their research results in both oral and written formats.

Locations: West Point, PA; Rahway, NJ; Kenilworth, NJ; Boston, MA

This is a full- time internship position. Housing subsidy is not available as part of this program and must be funded 100% by the student.

Education:

Required: Candidates must be a currently enrolled undergraduate sophomore, junior, or senior student pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or other Sciences, Supply chain, Materials Management, or Engineering OR a currently enrolled graduate student pursuing a Masters or PhD in Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Supply Chain, Materials Management or Engineering. Candidates with other non-scientific backgrounds can also apply if they have a strong interest in project management and supply chain.

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Candidates must be available to work full-time for up to (12) consecutive weeks beginning in May or June of 2022.
  • Candidates must have completed at least (2) years of studies toward bachelor’s degree by June 2022.

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Candidates should have basic laboratory skills and research experience, such as: electronic notebook recording, HPLC, spectroscopy, analytical techniques, and safe lab practices.
  • Device candidates should have basic knowledge in CAD and/or SolidWorks, engineering design, statistics, and material science.
  • Clinical supply: an interest in project management, have a growth mindset and strong interest in supply chain.
  • Candidates should have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
