Our company is currently seeking an exceptional chemist for a position within the Discovery Chemistry Department located at our San Francisco, CA site. The successful candidate will join multidisciplinary, highly collaborative discovery teams to invent novel medicines through a combination of innovative synthetic chemistry and analysis of diverse data sets to build structure-activity relationships. In this role, he/she will be responsible for driving program and chemistry strategy and execution as well as for scientific mentoring and technical training of team members. In addition, the incumbent will collaborate across disciplines, contribute to the design of biological experiments, and apply the best chemistry and techniques to enable clear decision making. He/she will utilize innovative synthetic and medicinal chemistry problem solving skills coupled with analysis of diverse data sets to build structure-activity relationships. The candidate will also design, synthesize, purify and characterize drug candidates in target validation, hit-to-lead and lead optimization projects. Furthermore, he/she will help identify and validate new targets through chemistry and will be responsible for collaborative engagement with the external scientific community. To accomplish the above, the successful candidate must have excellent interpersonal, collaboration and communication skills in addition to rigorous scientific thinking.

  • Act as a leader in the laboratory, driving program and chemistry strategy and execution
  • Provide scientific mentoring and technical training of team members.
  • Develop and utilize innovative synthetic and medicinal chemistry problem solving skills coupled with analysis of diverse data sets to build structure-activity relationships.
  • Design, synthesize, purify and characterize drug candidates in target validation, hit-to-lead and lead optimization projects.
  • Help identify and validate new targets, which may include collaborative engagement with the external scientific community and leadership of early drug discovery projects.
  • Establish a substantial external scientific presence including authoring significant scientific publications and presentations.

To accomplish the above, the successful candidate must have excellent interpersonal, collaboration and communication skills in addition to rigorous scientific thinking and a proven track record of driving the advancement of drug discovery programs.

Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in chemistry with 4+ years of industry experience in drug discovery
