As a Mechanical Engineer – Design Checker, you will perform drawing and model verification and focus on the review and approval of standard library part models with additional review of drawing packages as needed. Final products will support product schedule requirements and customer needs. You will ensure that design releases are accurate, error-free, affordable, and producible engineering drawings/models including the advancement of DSR 4-6 models. You will work in a collaborative environment to help deliver the next generation of mechanical products supporting LM Space.

The chosen individual will be able to telecommute on a full time basis. There is a preference to be close in proximity to one of our Space work locations for easy travel to onsite meetings as needed.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Prior experience with mechanical design and/or manufacturing experience that included the use and interpretation of engineering design drawings
  • Proficiency with ASME Y14.5M Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) Standards
  • Extensive knowledge of mechanical engineering fundamentals including structures, mechanisms, materials, and analysis
  • Familiar with mechanical hardware manufacturing processes
  • Experienced with engineering CAD tools and model based product definition
  • Proven capability to execute requirements of drawing and model checking

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with mechanical design and/or manufacturing experience that included the use and interpretation of engineering design drawings
  • Understanding of and familiarity with Lockheed Martin drafting standards
  • Familiarity with Data Set Standards (DSS) and the associated Data Set Ratings (DSR) with proficiency in DSR4 and DSR6 requirements
  • Currently certified to check both Drawings and Models
  • Familiarity with ASME Y14.41 Digital Product Definition Data Practices
  • Composites design and manufacturing experience
  • Working knowledge of industry standards and federal requirements applicable to mechanical and structural systems
  • Ability to train others on design and drawing practices
  • Experience in modeling and drafting using PTC Creo Parametric CAD Tool
  • Enterprise Product Data Management (EPDM) experience using the Windchill software
  • Familiarity with Industry Standard specifications (NAS, MIL, MS, etc.)
  • Familiarity with LM materials and process specifications (MAP, LAC, EPS, LM, etc.)
  • Design for Manufacturability (DFM) experience
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and customers simultaneously
