Fellow R&D Engineer, Technical Lead – Maple Grove, MN
About the role:
We have an exciting opportunity for a Fellow R&D Engineer, Technical Lead supporting Coronary Therapies projects within the Interventional Cardiology division. This role will utilize a variety of new and proven technologies to deliver life-changing medical devices to patients and clinicians in support of BSC’s mission.
Your responsibilities:
- Lead interdisciplinary technical teams consisting of electrical, mechanical, software, biomedical and systems engineers from project conception to commercialization of complex medical systems.
- Define projects and work tasks based on identified strategy and goals
- Plan and organize project assignments of substantial variety and complexity, including project resource requirements, budgets, schedules, and milestones
- Make technical decisions that may have significant impact to the company
- Own project level technical risks and the results of how those risks are addressed
- Proactively manage the technical scope of projects, utilizing tradeoff assessment tools, data analysis and subject matter expert feedback to justify and document technical scope decisions
- Develop advanced ideas and guides their development into a final product, program, or process.
- Determines emerging trends and provides information across functional boundaries in areas of expertise
- Recruit & mentor high potential technical talent.
- Interface with Physicians/Cath lab personnel to identify needs and to obtain feedback on concepts and performance of new devices that influence future business recommendations and enhances BSC’s Intellectual Property portfolio
- Lead technology integration and facilitate crisp decision making around key technical issues
- Provide clear communication to stakeholders at key technical updates
- Leverage internal/external partners as necessary to achieve project objectives
- Lead the design & execution of structured experimental plans to drive data-based decisions
- Understand clinical use cases and user interface requirements to drive design decisions
- Translate customer needs into product requirements and design specifications.
- In all actions, demonstrate a primary commitment to patient safety and product quality by maintaining compliance to all documented quality processes and procedures
What we’re looking for:
Minimum Qualifications
- BS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical or other related engineering fields.
- Required minimum years of work experience (primarily in medical device or related field): 12 years with BS, or 10 years with MS
- Strong system engineering skills over a broad range of products/applications
- Demonstrated capability to lead high performing technical teams through a structured approach to solving complex technical problems
- Strong knowledge of design controls & risk management practices
- Personal drive, individual accountability & a strong bias for action
- Excellent organizational, communication, and collaboration skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience designing complex electro-mechanical and software systems
- Medical device experience
- Expereince in medical ultrasonic imaging.
- Ability to interface effectively with customers to gather insights
- Track record of develop and launch products with commerical success.
