Job Description
At Bristol Myers Squibb, we are inspired by a single vision – transforming patients’ lives through science. In oncology, hematology, immunology and cardiovascular disease – and one of the most diverse and promising pipelines in the industry – each of our passionate colleagues contribute to innovations that drive meaningful change. We bring a human touch to every treatment we pioneer. Join us and make a difference.
Position Summary
Bristol Myers Squibb is a world-leader in targeted protein degradation therapeutics and developing hetero-bifunctional compounds to fight disease. A postdoctoral fellowship is available for an individual with a Ph.D. and experience in chemical biology and organic synthesis. Strong candidates are highly motivated, independent scientists capable of successfully designing, performing, and analyzing experiments. The fellow will join an inter-disciplinary team that blends cell biology, chemistry, and computational science to create novel hetero-bifunctional molecules to modulate biological pathways and affect the course of disease. Experience in proximity-induced activity or targeted protein degradation is preferred, but not required. The project will be untethered from pipeline products and is expected to be published in respected scientific journals. In this role, the post-doctoral fellow will design and synthesize novel compounds and test them in cellular settings for activity. The fellowship is an exciting opportunity for a candidate to gain first-hand experience in one of the most exciting areas in drug development.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead academic pursuits that utilize organic synthesis and cell biology to create and study hetero-bifunctional compounds that induce new protein-protein interactions.
- Synthesize hetero-bifunctional compounds as the project demands
- Design, optimize, and perform basic cellular experiments and assays to test compound function
- Collaborate with other post-doctoral fellows on inter-disciplinary projects
- Publish work in scientific journals
- Present work at internal and external scientific conferences
Qualifications & Experience
- Ph.D. with experience in chemical biology and organic synthesis
- Publication track-record in organic synthesis and chemical biology
- Preferred technical expertise:
- Expert in organic chemical synthesis, includin air- and moisture-free techniques and the safe handling of dangerous/toxic materials
- Experience in the design and execution of synthetic chemistry routes to specific targets
- Basic cell biology: Cell culture, western blotting, immuno-precipitation(
- Multiplex proteomics (eg TMT, SILAC), HPLC fractionation, PTM characterization
- Lentivirus, qPCR, western blotting, FACS, Immunofluorescence
- Windows, MS Office, graphing software (eg PRISM) or familiarity with R or python
- Experience with chemical biology, targeted degradation, or proximity-induced activity is desirable
Around the world, we are passionate about making an impact on the lives of patients with serious diseases. Empowered to apply our individual talents and diverse perspectives in an inclusive culture, our shared values of passion, innovation, urgency, accountability, inclusion and integrity bring out the highest potential of each of our colleagues.
