Job Description
Microsoft’s Quantum research group is exploring ways to build a full-stack quantum computer and has become the world’s center of expertise on topological quantum computing. The research effort includes a staff of theoretical and experimental teams around the world, who have been designing and optimizing all aspects of the quantum computer, from topological qubit designs, to cryogenic control and readout circuitry, to runtime software and quantum language compilers. This effort requires a new level of quantitative computer simulation to bedeveloped, with the aim of predicting quantum behavior not previously possible.
Responsibilities
You will be part of a team of physicists and engineers seeking to design topological qubits. You will develop state-of-the-art simulation tools for superconducting-semiconducting heterostructures and apply these to improve our qubit designs. Working with experimentalists, you will provide guidance for qubit measurement and interpretation. You will work closely with other theorists and must be able to handle multiple projects and dynamic situations.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:
- PhD in theoretical condensed matter physics or closely related field
- Background in mesoscopic and topological physics.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability and willingness to travel internationally.
The ideal candidate will also have:
- 2+ years post-PhD research experience.
- High-performance computing experience.
- Expert knowledge of numerical methods for quantum many-body systems.
- Experience with collaborative research code development.
