Our 35,000 employees around the world work to discover and bring life-changing medicines to those who need them, improve the understanding and management of disease, and give back to our communities through philanthropy and volunteerism. We give our best effort to our work, and we put people first. We’re looking for people who are determined to make life better for people around the world.

Eli Lilly & Company’s Biotechnology Discovery Research organization is responsible for discovering and optimizing novel biotherapeutic (proteins, peptides, antibodies) medicines for advancement into clinical research in key areas of unmet medical need including diabetes, oncology, immunology, neuroscience, and others. An essential component for success is enabling the generation of drug candidates containing biopharmaceutical properties that ensure successful manufacturing, formulation, and drug delivery.

Can you work collaboratively across multiple, diverse teams? We work cross-functionally with both research and development groups. Our teams focus on biophysical characterization and developing strategy for oral peptides, working together to accomplish our goals. We are looking for a hardworking scientist to join our efforts!

Some responsibilities in this role:

  • Develop and optimize analytical methods and assays aimed at selecting molecules with properties that will enable long-term technical success through pre-clinical and clinical development.
  • Conduct physical and chemical characterization of peptides and formulations using a combination of biochemical and biophysical characterization tools including, but not limited to, HPLC/UPLC, SEC, UV/VIS spectroscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy, analytical ultracentrifugation, static and dynamic light scattering.
  • Support the development of new formulations to improve oral peptide bioavailability as well as assay development for understanding formulation mechanism of action (MOA) with the help and supervision from the supervisor or colleagues
  • Work closely with protein engineering scientists, peptide chemists, ADME scientists, and biologists to characterize and understand how biophysical and formulation properties of novel biotherapeutic peptides relate to the overall profile of a clinical candidate molecule and formulation.
  • Molecular optimization, formulation optimization, or both.

Basic Qualifications:

  • B.S. or M.S degree in biochemistry, chemistry, chemical engineering, pharmaceutical sciences, or related field.

Additional Skills/Preferences:

  • Experience in protein chemistry, biophysical chemistry, formulation research, and/or protein structural analysis.
  • Hands-on experience with multiple biophysical and biochemical characterization techniques, and formulation development for peptides/proteins.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a larger group.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills necessary to work in a collaborative, cross-functional environment.
  • Ability to learn and apply technical/scientific knowledge to meet changing project needs.
