The Scientist within Physical Properties R&D will optimize, validate, and transfer a variety of analytical and physical property methods to support the analysis of intraocular lenses and eye care solutions.
These activities will occur under general supervision and in accordance with departmental procedures.
The individual is responsible for identifying new instrumentation to support product development. He/she will provide technical expertise to project teams in an effort to develop new eye health products. Bring your passion for eye health and methodology to our team!
The Scientist will work with instrumentation and methods that require the engagement of key partners such as Calibrations or Quality labs, he/she will build positive and collaborative relationships as well as manage activities to accomplish goals in a timely manner to meet key project milestones.
Familiarity with GxP guidelines and regulations, ANSI/ISO/ASTM guidance and standard documents, statistical approaches as well as test method life cycle management concepts are required for this research scientist position.
Goals include the improvement of the instrumentation and methods to support the rapid development of our products.
The individual will also be encouraged to recognize, diagnose, and resolve instrumentation and method problems for various analytical techniques. The individual will work collaboratively with senior Physical Properties team members to achieve our methodology goals.
Physical Properties representation to project teams will require the ability to offer technical support and provide data interpretation.
The individual will present data within the department and project team meetings with appropriate level of statistical analysis. He/she will initiate and write technical reports with general supervisory input.
Finally, the individual will collaborate with external researchers to combine both external and internal expertise to identify new technologies to facilitate new product development and ensure the team remains current.
The Scientist will uphold environmental, health, safety and sustainability policies, procedures, and support related objectives. He/she must engage in Credo-based decision-making.
Role/Responsibilities include:
- Perform equipment qualification for GMP equipment.
- Perform method optimization, validation and transfer activities; modify methodology to improve the quality, accuracy, method usability and usefulness of data.
- Participate in Physical Properties activities related to the development of new products, including representation to IOL project teams.
- Drive physical testing innovation; work toward the identification, assessment, and implementation of new, scientific concepts and technologies.
- Perform Physical Property R&D testing for developmental samples, raw materials, and clinical supply products, as needed.
- Make decisions based on analysis and interpretation of data.
- Ensure the quality of projects, reports, and manuscripts, adhering to applicable regulations and ensuring that raw data are accurately retained and archived.
Qualifications
- Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Analytical Chemistry, Material Science, Polymer Science, Chemistry or Mechanical/Bio-engineering is required. Master’s degree is preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant industry experience is preferred.
- Experience in Physical Property R&D testing methodology is preferred.
- Prior GxP experience is preferred.
- Experience with SAS or Minitab is preferred.
