About this SkillBridge Opportunity:
This SkillBridge internship will support our Research & Development Team at Mentor Worldwide LLC, a Johnson & Johnson Company.The internship may initially be virtual or based in our Mentor location at Irvine, CA. Post-internship placements are preferred for the Irvine, CA geographic area.
Mentor is a leading supplier of medical products for the global aesthetic market. The company develops, manufactures, and markets innovative, science-based products for surgical and non-surgical medical procedures that allow patients to improve their quality of life through breast, body and facial aesthetics. The ideal candidate for this role does not need formal experience in healthcare or medical devices, but will require higher education (preferably in a STEM field) and a successful record of progressive leadership experience in the Military. This position provides the opportunity to gain both technical and business leadership experience in a global healthcare corporation.
Responsibilities:
- Contributing to cross-functional multidisciplinary project teams (R&D, manufacturing, marketing, regulatory, etc.) in the design, development and manufacturing of breast implants, tissue expanders, and processes to fulfill clinical needs within regulatory requirements in both office and lab environments.
- Conduct research toward new product or process development or development toward improvement of existing products or process.
- Apply problem solving abilities and knowledge of scientific and engineering principles to a broad range of assignments and contribute inventions, new designs, new processes and techniques to solve technical problems based on customer needs.
- Interact directly with customers (surgeons) to determine and identify unmet needs and work towards producing products to support these conditions that incorporate manufacturability into new product development.
- Interact with manufacturing to prepare R&D prototype testing or processing equipment for use in manufacturing. Assists in equipment operation as necessary or helpful to improve task performance or productivity.
- Responsible for participating in design reviews and re-validation assessments to ensure the safe and environmentally sound start-up of new processes.
- Responsible for ensuring personal and company compliance with all Federal, State, local and company regulations, policies and procedures for Health, Safety and Environmental compliance.
- Other duties and responsibilities as needed/assigned by the manager.
Qualifications
- Meet all Department of Defense SkillBridge eligibility requirements for a United States Armed Forces Service Member, required.
- United States Armed Forces experience at the E-6 paygrade or higher with a proven record of success throughout military career, is required.
- A Bachelor’s Degree is required.
- Requires the ability to think strategically and creatively, to thrive in ambiguity, minimize risk, and to deliver results.
- Able to show experience in operational and/or strategic planning is required.
- Must have excellent interpersonal, influencing, and communication skills (both oral and written) within all levels of the organization
- Demonstrated successful experience as a people manager and/or leader is required
- Must possess analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to exercise sound independent judgment with minimal supervision.
- Good organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks required
- Ability to move materials and light equipment (up to 10 pounds) as needed
- Interest in building both technical expertise and project management/business acumen is preferred.
- A STEM degree or relevant chemical, biological, electrical, or mechanical experience is preferred.
- Remote Internship is possible, however interest in a relocation to Irvine, CA is preferred. Interest in relocation to Raritan, NJ, or Irving, TX is also possible.
